Your dental checkup begins with a rejuvenating teeth cleaning session. Our skilled dental hygienists use gentle techniques to remove plaque, tartar, and stains from the surfaces of your teeth. This thorough cleaning not only brightens your smile but also prevents the buildup of harmful bacteria that can lead to cavities and gum disease.
We take pride in providing a comfortable and relaxing experience during your cleaning. As we work, we'll share tips for maintaining excellent oral hygiene at home, empowering you to actively participate in your dental wellness.
The dental exam phase of your checkup is like a detective's investigation into the health of your smile. Dr. Sims carefully examines each tooth, checking for signs of decay, cracks, or abnormalities. Our advanced technology allows us to spot issues in their early stages, making treatment more effective and less invasive.
But it's not just about your teeth – your gums, jaw, and bite are equally important. We'll assess your gum health and screen for signs of gum disease, ensuring that your foundation remains strong. If needed, he'll discuss bite alignment and other concerns that could impact your overall oral health.
Caring for your oral health extends beyond teeth and gums. At Lakeside Smiles, we prioritize your overall well-being, which is why we include an oral cancer screening during your checkup. Oral cancer can develop silently, but early detection is key to successful treatment.
Our team is trained to identify any suspicious signs or symptoms that could indicate oral cancer. By including this screening in your regular checkups, we're able to catch potential issues in their earliest stages, giving you peace of mind and increasing your chances of a positive outcome.
After growing up in a small town in West Texas, Dr. Sims is finding Hendersonville a natural fit. His parents still own and operate the cattle ranch and farm he worked on as a kid, and he occasionally returns to help out when he can. He knew he wanted to be a dentist at 17 years old and to achieve that goal, he attended college at West Texas A&M and then graduated from Baylor College of Dentistry in 2005.
Dr. Sims spent the first 12 years of his career both practicing dentistry in Hendersonville, TN, and teaching for the world's largest dental services provider. After spending several years as Program Director for Dentist Education, he decided to slow down on traveling and focus on practicing dentistry and raising his two kids.
"I have always enjoyed giving back to the profession through teaching, and I hope to return to it someday." Dr Sims took over as the owner of Hillcrest Dental in 2018. "I am thankful I get to carry on the legacy started here in 1983 by Dr. Garrett."
During his spare time, he enjoys playing sports with his kids, competing in triathlons, and participating in CrossFit classes.
Regular dental checkups are essential for maintaining optimal oral health. They allow our experienced team to monitor your teeth and gums, detect early signs of issues, and provide preventive care to prevent more extensive problems in the future.
We recommend scheduling a dental checkup every six months. However, the frequency may vary based on your individual oral health needs. Our team will help you determine the best schedule during your initial visit.
A dental checkup involves three main components: teeth cleaning, dental exams, and oral cancer screening. During a teeth cleaning, our skilled hygienists remove plaque, tartar, and stains. Dental exams include a thorough inspection of your teeth, gums, and bite. An oral cancer screening helps detect any early signs of oral cancer.
Teeth cleaning is generally a comfortable procedure. Our hygienists use gentle techniques to ensure minimal discomfort. If you experience any sensitivity, please let us know so we can adjust our approach accordingly.
If we identify any dental issues, we will discuss them with you and recommend appropriate treatment options. Addressing issues early can prevent them from worsening and potentially requiring more invasive treatments.
Yes, X-rays are often a part of dental checkups. X-rays help us identify issues that may not be visible during a visual examination, such as cavities between teeth or problems beneath the gumline.
Yes, an oral cancer screening is an important part of your checkup. Oral cancer can develop without obvious symptoms, making early detection crucial for successful treatment.
Many dental insurance plans cover regular dental checkups as part of preventive care. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to understand your coverage. Lakeside Smiles accepts a variety of insurance plans and can help you navigate your benefits.
Consistent oral hygiene practices at home are essential. Brush your teeth twice a day, floss daily, and maintain a balanced diet. Avoid tobacco and excessive alcohol consumption. Regularly replacing toothbrushes and using fluoride toothpaste also contribute to good oral health.
We understand that dental anxiety is common. Our team is experienced in helping patients feel comfortable and relaxed during their visits. We offer a supportive environment and can discuss options like sedation dentistry to ease your anxiety.
